Description of Test Content:

The NET is a paper or computer-based test consisting of seven parts: essential math skills, reading comprehension for science textbooks, reading rate, test-taking skills, stress level profile, social interaction profile, and learning style. A minimum reading comprehension score of 51% or higher and a minimum math score of 42% or higher must be achieved for consideration for admission into the Allied Health Programs. Math skills problems consist of decimals, fractions, percentages, number system conversions, and algebra equations (30 problems in 30 minutes). Calculators are NOT allowed. Scratch paper and pencils will be provided and must be returned to the test proctor before leaving. Reading comprehension involves reading selections and answering questions (33 questions in 30 minutes).

Preparation & Remediation:
The NET study guide is available for purchase in the bookstore or through ERI at www.eriworld.com An applicant may test a maximum of 2 times during a 365-day period. It is recommended that applicants complete the NET well before the application deadline to the Medical Assistant, Surgical Technology, or Practical Nursing programs; however, test results are valid for only two years.

A NET review remedial class is available, usually held in February and May.  The cost for the class is $91 plus the cost of the NET book.  The class consists of 20 hours of instruction and is limited to 20-25 participants.   Reservations for the class can be made by calling     (931) 473-5587

Testing Process, Registration, & Cost:
Testing is available on paper and by computer. Because of the complexity of the computerized NET test, intermediate computer skills are now recommended to take the computerized version of the NET test.  Additional test dates may be added on an as-needed basis.

Test takers must pay a nonrefundable exam fee (cash, credit card, or money order) of $30.00  for computerized tests and $40.00 for paper tests in advance to reserve a seat on the specified date.  Test takers who wish to change their test date after paying the test fee must give at least 24 hours notice. At that time they will be charged an additional $5 to cover administrative costs for changing test dates.

Test takers who do not give at least 24 hours notice or who are not present for their scheduled test date will forfeit their testing fee.

Admission to the testing center for testing includes an acceptable photo ID and a receipt for the testing fee.
