The Surgical Technology student works predominantly with the anesthetized patient. The program prepares the student to work in the hospital operating room and same day surgery. It includes courses in anatomy, terminology, and infection control. The student practices to establish and maintain a sterile field.  The student learns to open the room for surgery, scrub, gown and glove, and hand instruments to the surgeon. Students in the O.R. are working under the direction of the surgeon, circulating nurse, and the preceptor.

When all necessary course requirements are met, the students will be prepared to seek employment as a surgical technologist. Graduates are eligible to take the National Certification Exam (LCC-ST     Liaison Council on Certification for Surgical Technology).  After the graduate passes the exam, they become Certified Surgical Technologists.
