The Technology Foundations class is not a program but
an academic component of most programs at the Tennessee Technology
Center at McMinnville. The Technology Foundations class is designed to
provide the opportunity to acquire and master or upgrade basic skills,
to improve performance, and to enhance the program the student has
chosen to pursue. The class affords the student the opportunity to
progress at his/her own speed in an individualized program with an array
of curriculum varying from basic reading, mathematics, English grammar,
and writing skills to algebra, basic trigonometry, and resume
preparation. The class is designed to deal with all levels of
education. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Students are admitted into the Technology Foundations class based on criteria determined by the Tennessee Board of Regents and by Technology Foundations instructors statewide. At the time of enrollment, diploma seeking full-time and part-time students, except for Surgical Technology and Medical Assistant students, are given a computer-based test using the KeyTrain assessment in Locating Information, Applied Reading, and Applied Mathematics. After the KeyTrain placement tests and evaluation of the reports are completed, students who have scored less than program requirements in Locating Information, Applied Reading, and Applied Mathematics are enrolled in the Technology Foundations class. If deficiencies are found in keyTrain basic skills, individualized instruction as well as computerized instruction is given until the student has mastered the required KeyTrain levels. Each individualized instructional program is designed to correct any basic educational deficiencies, to improve the performance levels, and to enhance the program the student has chosen to pursue. Students are enrolled in the Technology Foundations class for approximately 3 hours per week. The typical student will complete the KeyTrain skills during the first 3 to 6 months of enrollment. Upon the completion of KeyTrain instruction and testing in Locating Information, Applied Reading, and Applied Mathematics, students may continue with intermediate and advanced skills to enhance their performance in their chosen program. In addition, mechanics, electricity, fluids, and thermodynamics are available for some of the technical programs. Business Writing, Teamwork, Observation, and Listening are available upon request. The Career Skills programs are available to all students. |
